Swatches

I am feeling better. I just know I have to let it out, and then get back onto the right track.
In the meantime, I collected a few swatches, and loved the organic, old feel of netting, combined with shirting fabric. I also liked this stretchy ivory knit that I found. I went to Barnes&Noble after looking at fabrics, and picked up this month's Vogue. They had neon colors much like the Givenchy Haute Couture show, and thought that it would look great to add in a splash of neon with the rest of the bunch.

Reflection

I want to share a story. I was dating a man, which I thought to be extemely sweet, chose to walk away from this relationship without saying a word. His name was Omar, a lawyer in New York, and I felt he was different since he was writing a children's book and had a great youthful side to him. It all went away this past week when I checked in to see how he was, and nothing.

I'm telling you this because right now what I create is through the eyes of sadness... but I have to keep going because this is the only thing right now that makes me a little happy. This won't last forever, as we are all very reslilient.

I'm going to Mood fabric to take a look at fabrics soon, I will show swatches soon.

I also want to share this photo from the Elie Saab Spring 2011 Couture Show. The entire photo looks like art, from the gown to the woman to the background. There's something serene and beautiful about the movement and drape, to her facial expression - seems almost emotionless.

Gaultier

While sketching up dresses, thinking of Couture and listening to Daft Punk, Gaultier's Spring 2011 Couture show came to mind because his theme was British Punk meets Moulin Rouge. Love his ideas. Remember - all of this takes thousands of hours to create.

Project => Initial Sketches

Lazy Sunday... wearing green yoga pants and a white racerback tank from Alternative Apparel (I got this in Peru) I sat here at my work table sketching and drinking coffee while listening to Daft Punk. So... here are initial rough sketches based on what I saw from the Couture shows, shopping and La Sagrada Familia. They will change since I haven't looked at fabric or draped any of it.

When I lived in Paris in 1999, my illustration teacher/ mentor, Alan Faye, who taught at Parsons Paris taught me that I shouldn't erase, just draw over... then at Parsons New York, one teacher told me not to be so scratchy with my lines - I can't help it. I like to sketch like that, and I also like to have incomplete legs and hands and faces... I don't know why. But keep in mind, these are still very rough.

Project => The Concept

After posting Dior's Spring 2011 Couture Collection, I wanted to make something. I headed to Soho and purchased a leather jacket from All Saints.  I just love the feel and the silhouette of this jacket. It's nowhere near handmade, but it is definitely a big part of my next design because I will pair this jacket with whatever I do make.
Leather jacket from All Saints. I just put it on my dress form which happened to have my necklace from India.
So now I have textures in mind, especially after seeing Givenchy's Spring 2011 Couture Collection. I thought of the textures of La Sagrada Familia, when I revisited Barcelona in 2009.

Textures, lighting, dark vs. light. Let's see what kinds of sketches I come up with.

Galliano

This sh*t rocks. Come on now, it does. I am aware that I am not sounding refined but I have to say that handmade pieces are so amazing to me. From Givenchy to Dior... this is my favorite piece from Dior's Spring 2011 show.

I love the silhouette of this one:

Hmm.. so now I'm going to go have my coffee and head to the yarn store to knit a hat for a friend, then meeting up with someone in the city for a drink. In the meantime, I'll be thinking of what clothing item I want to make for this Spring.  I'm revisiting my Barcelona trip to La Sagrada Familia so I'll post things up for this as well.

My Favorite

It's that time of the year again. Aside from loving the face of Stella Tennant in multiple shows, I was loving the Asian models and intense embroidery of Givenchy.
